Baku: President Ilham Aliyev expressed his satisfaction with the conduct of Azerbaijan’s athletes, emphasizing the importance of their dignity both in society and daily life. During a meeting with wrestlers who achieved European championship team standings and their coaches, Aliyev highlighted the significance of maintaining a respectable public image.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the president stated that history has many instances of athletes who fail to uphold their standards in everyday life, which eventually tarnishes their athletic reputations. However, Azerbaijan has managed to avoid such incidents, a point of pride for Aliyev, who has led the National Olympic Committee for nearly three decades.
President Aliyev further remarked on the importance of moral standards, stating that it is as crucial as winning medals. He praised the continuity of traditions in the region, noting that current champions serve as exemplary figures for society. Aliyev also recalled his past support for federation leaders and coaches, who now nurture the next generation of athletes, underscoring the enduring traditions that strengthen Azerbaijani society and the broader Caucasus region.
