Baku: President Ilham Aliyev has expressed his confidence in the future success of Azerbaijani women wrestlers, stating that he has no doubt they will achieve gold medals.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev made these remarks on April 30 while receiving the Azerbaijan national wrestling teams, who recently competed in the European Championships in Tirana, Albania. The President acknowledged the achievements of both the Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestlers who became European champions in the team standings. He also praised the women’s wrestling team for their performance, highlighting the growing interest and participation of young Azerbaijani girls in the sport.
President Aliyev emphasized that while there could have been more medals, the development across various wrestling disciplines, including freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women’s wrestling, is evident in Azerbaijan. He remarked that some outcomes were unfortunate and acknowledged the potential for errors but maintained a positive outlook on the future successes of Azerbaijani athletes in wrestling.
