President Ilham Aliyev Clarifies Azerbaijan’s Position on WTO Membership

Davos: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has clarified the current situation regarding Azerbaijan’s membership in the World Trade Organization, APA’s correspondent assigned to Davos reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev emphasized that despite being invited for 30 years, Azerbaijan has chosen not to join the WTO. He stated that this decision is driven by the desire to preserve both the economic and political sovereignty of the country. While maintaining this stance, Azerbaijan continues to foster positive relations with many international partners.

President Aliyev highlighted that Azerbaijan has strategic partnership documents with 10 members of the European Union, a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with China, and ongoing discussions about a strategic partnership charter with the United States. He noted that these relationships do not contradict each other and are part of Azerbaijan’s clear vision for its future.

In his address during the panel session “Defining Eurasia’s Economic Identity” in Davos, President Aliyev also expressed optimism about relations with Armenia, citing the achievement of real peace after decades of conflict.
