New Orthography and Orthoepy Dictionaries of Azerbaijani Language Set for 2025-2026 Publication

Baku: New orthography and orthoepy dictionaries are being prepared for publication as part of an initiative by the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). Rasim Heydarov, the head of a department at the institute, announced in an interview with APA that these updated dictionaries are scheduled for release in 2025-2026.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the new dictionaries will be developed using a frequency system. This system involves selecting and analyzing the most frequently used words in the press, books, and media. Words with higher frequency will be included in the dictionaries to ensure they are richer and more accurate than the current ones.

A word base of over five hundred million has been collected for the new dictionary project. These words will undergo a process of repetition, sifting, and selection to ensure relevance and accuracy. Materials from the media and press from the last 20-30 years were researched to identify high-frequency words for inclusion. Additionally, all sources from which each word has been taken will be documented in the dictionaries.

In tandem with the orthography and orthoepy dictionaries, work is ongoing at the Linguistics Institute on new transliterated dictionaries for languages such as English, Arabic, and Persian. Although this is a lengthy process, efforts are underway to establish the system for these transliterated dictionaries.
