Kazakhstan Gears Up for Busy Summer of International Sports Events


Astana: The Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sports recently convened a working meeting to finalize preparations for a series of major international sporting events set to take place this summer, Qazinform News Agency reported.



According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting focused on key organizational aspects for the international tournaments scheduled in the cities of Astana, Turkistan, Shymkent, and Aktau. The discussions highlighted the importance of athlete and spectator safety, the readiness of sports infrastructure, logistics, medical support, accommodations for foreign delegations, and coordination between central and local government authorities.



Participants in the meeting addressed preparations for several significant competitions, including the Astana 2026 World Boccia Cup, which will see athletes from 25 countries compete in the capital city. The Asian Canoe Sprint Championships are also on the agenda, expected to draw approximately 350 athletes from 16 nations. Additionally, there will be International WT Taekwondo tournaments, anticipated to attract around 1,600 participants, the XXXV Gusman Kosanov Memorial athletics tournament with about 250 athletes from 15 countries, the Kurash World Championships expected to host around 500 athletes from 50 countries, and the Central Asian WKF Karate Championships, involving around 700 athletes.



Deputy Minister Serik Zharasbayev underscored the significance of organizing these international competitions to the highest standards. He pointed out that hosting such major sporting events enhances Kazakhstan’s international sporting reputation, supports the development of sports infrastructure, and encourages mass participation in sports across the nation.



In conclusion, the meeting resulted in directives for responsible government authorities, sports federations, and event organizers to ensure timely and high-quality preparations for the forthcoming international competitions.
