Baku: Enhancement of bilateral trade with Azerbaijan is one of the top priorities of Pakistan’s leadership, as stated by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Qasim Mohiuddin. The ambassador emphasized the importance of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and the Transit Trade Agreement (TTA) in fostering tariff concessions and encouraging greater trade volumes between the two countries.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the PTA and TTA have been instrumental in encouraging bilateral trade by granting tariff concessions on designated goods and aligning customs regulations. Efforts are being made to harmonize cooperation mechanisms between commercial banks to facilitate timely trade transactions.
Ambassador Mohiuddin pointed out that while bilateral trade has not yet matched the strong political ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, efforts are ongoing to strengthen business sector connections. Since the agreements’ implementation, there has been an increase in B2B engagements in Baku and various commercial centers in Pakistan. Leading Chambers of Commerce and business associations from Pakistan have visited Baku to explore opportunities, and notable Azerbaijani businessmen have reciprocated with visits to Pakistan.
The ambassador reiterated that enhancing bilateral trade is a key priority for Pakistan’s leadership and is a significant focus of Inter-Governmental Commission meetings. The mutual objective is to leverage strong political ties to achieve sustained economic cooperation.
