Jabrayil City Day Celebrated on Sixth Anniversary of Liberation


Jabrayil:Today marks six years since the liberation of Jabrayil city from occupation.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Jabrayil was freed on October 4, 2020, following successful combat operations by the Azerbaijani Army, which began a counter-offensive on September 27, 2020.

In the initial days of the conflict, the Azerbaijani Army broke through the front line, liberating several villages in the Jabrayil district. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced the liberation of Jabrayil city and nine villages—Karkhulu, Shukurbayli, Yukhari Maralyan, Charakan, Dashkasan, Horovlu, Dajal, Mahmudlu, and Jafarabad—in his national address on October 4.

Jabrayil was the first district center liberated during the 44-day Patriotic War. In recognition, Azerbaijan established the ‘For the Liberation of Jabrayil’ medal to honor servicemen who showed courage and bravery in the district’s liberation.

President Ilham Aliyev officially declared October 4 as Jabrayil City Day on July 31, 2023. Jabrayil district had be
en occupied by Armenian forces since August 23, 1993, with extensive destruction of settlements and historical and cultural monuments reported during the occupation.
