Baku: Although the accreditation of the Baku branch of the ‘Rossiya Segodnya’ Information Agency (‘Sputnik Azerbaijan’) was suspended in February 2025, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has launched an investigation based on operational information that the outlet continues to operate using illegal funding, said the Ministry’s Press Service, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, on June 30, operational search activities were conducted at the branch’s office, and arrests were made. The authorities have not disclosed the identities of those detained or provided detailed information about the illegal funding sources. The investigation is ongoing, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs has stated that further information will be provided as the situation develops.
