Investigation into Criminal Case Against Ilgar Hajiyev Concludes

Baku: The investigation into the criminal case initiated against Ilgar Hajiyev has been completed, APA reports. The official appeal of the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding this matter was broadcast on Ictimai Television.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, although Ilgar Hajiyev was summoned to the Prosecutor General’s Office on November 24, he failed to appear, leading to proceedings being initiated against him in absentia. By a decision of the Binagadi District Court on November 27, he was provided with a lawyer, and the investigation has now reached completion. Hajiyev and his defense attorneys have been informed that they will be allowed to review the criminal case from December 12 without any time restrictions.

Hajiyev has been warned that failure to appear for the investigation could result in the criminal case being sent to court in absentia, where a verdict could be issued against him. Previously, he was charged under Article 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. A decision was made to summon him as a suspect, but he fled the country, prompting a search warrant and a special measure of arrest in absentia by the Nizami District Court on January 13th, 2021.

On November 14, changes to the charges were made, and Hajiyev was charged as an accused person under Articles 178.3.2 and 193-1.3.2 of the Criminal Code, which was in force until December 1, 2017. Allegations against him include using his position as head of SDI Group LLC to receive $10 million fraudulently and legalizing a large amount of the victim’s property in Moscow and Baku.
