ICRC Highlights Success in Identifying Missing Argentine Servicemen

Baku:The identities of 121 Argentine servicemen have been established in the Malvinas Islands, according to Cristian Rivier, Head of the Central Tracing Agency of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Rivier made this announcement at the Fourth International Conference, part of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Rivier emphasized that results concerning missing persons can be achieved even decades after the original events through sustained efforts.

Rivier highlighted the cooperation between the international community and the ICRC regarding the Malvinas Islands. In this case, the ICRC acted as a neutral intermediary, conducting forensic operations that led to the identification of the Argentine servicemen who had died.

He underscored that fulfilling obligations related to missing persons can significantly contribute to building trust between states and conflict parties. The ICRC official also pointed out that families of the missing have a right to information about their relatives, and addressing these issues requires the integration of medical, legal, and forensic expertise along with political commitment.
