Fenerbahce Triumphs Over Liverpool for First Champions League Win in 18 Years

Istanbul:Fenerbahce achieved a historic victory by defeating Liverpool 3-2 at home, marking their first UEFA Champions League win in over 18 years. This thrilling match saw Fenerbahce come from behind twice to secure the win at Istanbul’s Chobani Stadium.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Liverpool initially took the lead with a goal from Trey Nyoni in the 25th minute. However, Fenerbahce’s Mason Greenwood quickly equalized four minutes later, bringing the score to 1-1 at halftime.

The second half saw Alexander Isak restoring Liverpool’s lead in the 69th minute, but Fenerbahce’s Archie Brown responded with an equalizer just four minutes later. The decisive moment came when Vedat Muric scored in the 79th minute, completing the comeback and earning Fenerbahce a significant victory.

This win is Fenerbahce’s first in the Champions League since they defeated Chelsea on April 2, 2008, in the quarterfinals. With this result, Fenerbahce moved to five points from four matches in the league phase, while Liverpool experienced their first point drop of the season.

Despite the victory, a clean sheet remains elusive for Fenerbahce, as they have yet to achieve this in six Champions League matches this season, including two playoff fixtures.
