Baku:The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has emphasized the need for the Middle Corridor to evolve from a mere transport route into a comprehensive economic corridor. Nataly Mouravidze, Head of the EBRD Resident Office in Azerbaijan, made these remarks during a panel discussion at the Azerbaijan-European Union Business Forum.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Mouravidze highlighted that the principal potential of the Middle Corridor lies beyond the transportation of goods. It is also in stimulating investment, creating jobs, and fostering private sector development across the region. She noted that measuring the corridor’s success should involve evaluating the investment, jobs, and business opportunities it generates, not just the volume of containers transported.
Mouravidze further emphasized the importance of transforming the Middle Corridor into an economic corridor. This transformation should include the development of logistics services, warehousing, processing, manufacturing enterprises, and export-oriented businesses. She also mentioned that expanding transport connections, alongside sustainable development and energy transition goals, could establish a foundation for a broader economic transformation in the region.
