Court Upholds Preventive Detention of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Member Mammad Ibrahim

Baku: The Baku Court of Appeal has upheld the preventive detention measure against Mammad Ibrahim, a member of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), who was detained by the State Security Service (SSS). The court’s decision supports the earlier ruling by the Sabail District Court, which placed Ibrahim in pre-trial detention for 2 months and 15 days.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mammad Ibrahim faces charges under Article 278.1 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to actions aimed at seizing state power by force, retaining power by force, or forcibly changing the constitutional order. The court’s decision comes after an appeal was made regarding the preventive measure, which has now been dismissed.

The legal proceedings are part of a broader investigation involving other APFP members, including chairman Ali Karimli. Both Karimli and Ibrahim were questioned by the State Security Service as part of the investigation. Their homes were searched before they were taken into custody.

The investigation into Ibrahim and Karimli is reportedly linked to a criminal case involving Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former head of the Presidential Administration. Mehdiyev is facing multiple charges, including actions aimed at seizing state power, treason, and the legalization of property obtained through criminal means, as outlined under Articles 278.1, 274, and 193-1.3.2 of the Criminal Code.
