Baku: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, recently held a meeting with Fergus Auld, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, to explore the development of energy cooperation between the two nations. The discussions centered on enhancing the long-term energy partnership, particularly in the realms of green energy, the Caspian-Black Sea-European Green Energy Corridor, and the application of innovative technologies.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, during this meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Green Energy Corridor Power Company (GECO) and the UK-based Xlinks. This MoU, signed by GECO General Director Farhad Mammadov and Xlinks Executive Director James Humphrey, focuses on collaboration in submarine cable projects and related infrastructure, as well as the exchange of information and technical assessments. The agreement does not establish any legal obligations, and GECO is currently engaging in negotiations with potential partners after conducting a feasibility study for the Green Energy Corridor.
GECO is a joint venture formed by four countries-Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary-to implement the agreement on developing and transmitting green energy. Xlinks is known for its work on large-scale renewable energy and long-distance transmission projects, including the North Sea Link interconnector between the UK and Norway and the Viking Link interconnector between the UK and Denmark, each boasting a transmission capacity of 1.4 GW.
