BAKU: “The main priority of the COP29 Presidency in the negotiations is the new goal for financing climate action,” stated Mukhtar Babayev, President of COP29, during the Parliamentary Meeting organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Babayev emphasized that the COP29 Presidency is concentrating on enhancing ambitions concerning climate change and facilitating actionable steps. He highlighted the significant role parliaments can play in encouraging stronger climate plans by setting and overseeing national budgets, which are pivotal in determining governments’ economic strategies. These actions are crucial for financing the transition towards a climate-resilient world.
Babayev acknowledged the potential challenges that might arise, such as political and financial constraints, but underscored that climate change impacts the security and well-being of all people more than any other issue. He believe
