BAKU: A series of high-level meetings dedicated to global initiatives under Azerbaijan’s presidency for COP29 took place during “Climate Week” at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Trend reports citing COP29’s social media publication.
“During consultations in New York, we continued to seek ways to advance the common priorities for COP29 in Baku,” stated the information shared.
The meeting gathered senior representatives from UN specialized agencies, member states, and delegations from countries participating in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
COP29 Chief Negotiator, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev highlighted that the agenda includes 14 global initiatives focusing on energy, finance, agriculture, water supply, and urban development.
In parallel, COP29 President-designate Mukhtar Babayev participated in the High-Level Dialogue on Energy Transition, where UN leadership and the European Commission discussed the Global Stocktake report.
“In Baku, imp
ortant documents on energy transition are set to be adopted at COP29 in Baku – the Declaration on Energy Storage and Grids, the Declaration on Green Energy Zones, and the Declaration on Hydrogen,” the COP29 website noted.
Additionally, the COP29 presidency team held several bilateral meetings at UN headquarters, including discussions with a World Bank delegation on launching the Global Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage and talks with the German delegation on measures to progress COP29 priorities.
To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan in November this year.
