Committee Outlines Detailed Plans for Restoration of Shusha’s Historic Center

Baku: The historic center of Shusha city can be restored in sufficient detail, announced Muslim Imranli, the head of the Architecture and Urban Planning Department of the Karabakh Regional Main Department of Architecture and Urban Planning. He made this statement during an event themed ‘Unity of Youth for Our Future Cities’ at the “III National Urban Forum” in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Imranli acknowledged that the restoration process is both expensive and lengthy, indicating that the project will take a significant amount of time to complete. He emphasized the importance of historical images that have been discovered in the archive of architect Elturan Avalov.

Imranli revealed that they recently acquired a large archive of negatives from Mr. Avalov, with his consent. The archive contains approximately 1,500 negatives featuring photos of Shusha from the 1970s and 1980s, which have never been published or digitized. The digitization process has already begun, allowing experts to understand the city’s layout during that period. Imranli noted that these images are vital as Shusha has faced destruction multiple times, and old archives serve as crucial resources for tracing its historical blueprint.
