London: The main club competition in Europe will resume this week, according to OneFootball. This Tuesday and Wednesday, the Champions League returns with the 18 matches of the seventh and penultimate round of the league phase.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, some teams already have their future outlined in the standings, but there is still much to be decided. Arsenal is the isolated leader of the league phase, with six wins in six games. The Gunners have even beaten the second-placed Bayern Munich in a match that took place in London during the fifth round.
Among the most powerful clubs, the situations of Chelsea, Barcelona, and Juventus deserve attention. The three are unlikely to miss the knockout stage, but they are still seeking a spot in the G8, which qualifies directly for the round of 16. Teams ranked from 1st to 8th will advance directly to the round of 16, while those from 9th to 24th will move on to the round of 32. Teams placed from 25th to 36th face elimination.
The big game this week is scheduled for San Siro. Inter Milan lost to Liverpool and Atl©tico Madrid in the last two rounds but remains in sixth position and now hosts the leader Arsenal. If the Gunners win, they secure the leadership of the league phase of the Champions League. Two other games deserve special attention: Tottenham vs. Borussia Dortmund and Olympique de Marseille vs. Liverpool. The four teams involved are between the 9th and 24th positions, still seeking a direct spot in the round of 16.
