Cargo Transport Through Azerbaijan’s Middle Corridor Sees Significant Growth

Baku: Cargo transportation via the Middle Corridor through Azerbaijan has seen a 7% increase in the first half of this year, with 1.741 million tons of transit cargo moved through the region.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, AZCON Holding reported that this growth is attributed to increased activities in various sectors, including dry cargo and tanker transportation.

During the reporting period, the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) transported 666 thousand tons of cargo using dry cargo vessels, marking an 83% increase year-on-year. Additionally, ASCO’s tanker vessels moved 2.2 million tons of cargo in the first quarter, reflecting a 12% rise compared to the same period in 2024.

Furthermore, ASCO reported transporting 684 thousand tons of cargo beyond the Caspian Sea, a substantial increase of 208% compared to January-June of the previous year. The Port of Baku also contributed to this growth, handling 53 thousand TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) containers, a 71% increase from the same period in 2024.
