Baku to Host World Environment Day 2026 in Partnership with UNEP

Baku: Azerbaijan will host World Environment Day (WED) on June 5, 2026, under the theme ‘Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,’ as part of its collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources announced.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azerbaijan assumed the responsibility of hosting World Environment Day from the Republic of Korea in 2024. World Environment Day, established by the UN General Assembly in 1972, serves as a major global platform for environmental protection, engaging millions of individuals worldwide.

Azerbaijan continues its initiatives to expand protected natural areas, conserve biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and address climate change. As a signatory to the Paris Agreement, the nation is committed to emission reduction and is actively growing its renewable energy sector.

Following the momentum from hosting COP29, Azerbaijan aims to enhance international cooperation and convert environmental pledges into tangible actions through this event. Azerbaijan, together with UNEP, urges all parties to participate in World Environment Day for the sake of environmental protection.
