Baku: ‘Baku Steel Company’ CJSC is furthering its commitment to environmental protection by planting approximately 3,000 trees in the Mushfigabad settlement of the Garadagh district. This initiative is part of the company’s ongoing program focused on expanding green areas and preserving biodiversity.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Baku Steel Company, in collaboration with ‘Azerbaijan Greening and Landscape Construction’ OJSC, planted olive trees and Eldar pine saplings on a 5-hectare site. The Eldar pine is a rare species listed in the Red Book of Azerbaijan. The newly planted trees are expected to absorb around 48 tons of carbon dioxide annually, contributing significantly to reducing the carbon footprint and enhancing air quality.
The tree-planting effort highlights the potential environmental benefits of these species. Specifically, the 2,500 olive trees are anticipated to absorb approximately 38 tons of CO2, while the 500 Eldar pines could absorb about 10 tons. This initiative, therefore, plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change effects and maintaining ecological balance.
Over the past three years, Baku Steel Company has planted around 5,050 trees, which helps in the annual absorption of about 86 tons of CO2. Previous efforts included planting on a 2-hectare area in Mushfigabad and contributions in the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park and in Baku and Sumgayit cities.
Baku Steel Company is also investing in ‘clean production’ and environmental management technologies. In collaboration with ‘AS Metals Technologies SA,’ the company has enhanced the Gas and Dust Collection Unit at its Baku production facility. This modernization has significantly increased the filtration capacity and reduced emissions, aligning with international environmental standards.
The company plans to continue its environmental initiatives, emphasizing sustainable development principles to protect the environment and promote a greener future.
