Azerbaijan’s President Highlights Importance of Strength Over International Law

Baku: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has expressed concerns over the inefficacy of international law, emphasizing the need for strength in global affairs. During an interview with local television channels on January 5, Aliyev stated, “Unfortunately, the norms and principles of international law do not function. Azerbaijan was one of the first victims of the failure of international law.”

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the President highlighted that four resolutions from the UN Security Council, which demanded the withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijani territories, remained unimplemented for 27 years. He stressed that had Azerbaijan not taken action to liberate its lands by force, these resolutions might have remained unexecuted indefinitely.

Aliyev recalled that since the Second Karabakh War, new realities have been acknowledged globally, including by the international community, leading countries, and influential organizations. He stated, “We do not live in a world based on paper-the UN Charter. We live on the land. Therefore, we must be strong, and this is what we are striving to do. I recommend this to every country.”
