Tirana: The European Championship held in the capital of Albania has concluded, marking a triumphant moment for the Azerbaijani national freestyle wrestling team.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the team emerged victorious, securing the top spot in Europe for the sixth time. They garnered 152 points with an impressive haul of 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal. This achievement placed them 58 points ahead of Georgia, which secured second place, while Armenia finished third with 73 points.
Previously, Azerbaijan had dominated the continent in this discipline in 2009, 2017, 2022, 2023, and 2025. In terms of medal quality, the team’s performance in Albania marked their best result in the last 17 years, with their medal tally reflecting the most golds since 2009. The team finished 79 points clear of Armenia, underscoring their commanding presence in the championship.
