Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Advocates for Stronger Role of Non-Aligned Movement in Global Affairs

Baku: As part of her working visit to Serbia, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, attended the High-Level Commemorative Meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Member States.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova noted that over the 65 years, the organization has turned into a crucial international platform for advancing the common interests and objectives of its member states, as well as for making a collective contribution to addressing global challenges.

She emphasized that during its NAM Chairmanship from 2019 to 2024, Azerbaijan contributed significantly towards enhancing the organization’s solidarity, international standing, and institutional capacity. Sahiba Gafarova stressed that during its NAM Chairmanship, Azerbaijan provided financial and humanitarian assistance to over 80 countries.

The Azerbaijani parliamentary speaker also outlined the key tasks ahead of the Organization. She stated that, while preserving its unity and solidarity, the NAM must amplify its influence, contributing to peace, sustainable development, and the formation of a more just and equitable world order.
