Brussels:Azerbaijani families of missing persons convened with European Union representatives in Brussels on October 21. The meeting, hosted by the European External Action Service (EEAS), included the participation of members from the ‘Garabagh Missing Families’ Public Union.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the families discussed the lack of information provided by Armenia regarding their missing relatives, even after the conflict has ended. Present at the meeting were Okke Bouwman, Political Adviser to the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, and Marco Cardinali, Coordinator for Relations with Azerbaijan.
Konul Behbudova, chair of the ‘Garabagh Missing Families’ Public Union, highlighted that Azerbaijani families had staged a protest on October 20 at Place du Luxembourg in Brussels, near the European Parliament, where they issued a statement. She stressed that Armenia holds full responsibility for clarifying the fate of the missing Azerbaijanis and is required to provide information on the locations of mass graves.
Behbudova also mentioned that the discovery of 32 mass graves in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories represents only a fraction of a larger humanitarian issue. The meeting noted that the protest concerning the missing Azerbaijanis was succeeded by another demonstration at Schuman Square, central Brussels, on October 21.
