Baku:Azerbaijan has announced plans to upgrade the insulation of Soviet-era buildings by 2060 as part of its efforts to achieve decarbonization. The initiative involves replacing outdated construction materials with highly energy-efficient insulation solutions.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, the plan is detailed in “Azerbaijan’s Long-Term Low-Carbon Development Strategy.” The strategy emphasizes the need for adequate insulation to enhance the energy efficiency of heating and cooling systems. Given the inferior standards of Soviet-era construction materials, the installation of high-performance insulation materials is deemed essential for achieving decarbonization.
The strategy outlines that by 2060, both existing and new buildings in Azerbaijan are expected to feature optimal insulation. This will include the use of advanced thermal insulation and double-glazed windows to meet high energy efficiency standards. The enhanced insulation is anticipated to significantly reduce the energy demand for heating and cooling, contributing notably to the country’s goal of net-zero emissions.
