New York:Azerbaijan has expressed strong support for international efforts to foster a secure and stable environment for information and communications technology (ICT). This statement was made by Magsad Huseynov, First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, during a thematic discussion on disarmament and international security at the UN General Assembly’s First Committee.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Huseynov highlighted the transformative impact of ICTs on societies, emphasizing their role in sustainable development, economic growth, and enhanced connectivity. However, he also noted the rising challenges of malicious ICT activities, which could undermine trust, spread misinformation, and affect critical infrastructures globally.
Azerbaijan has been a consistent supporter of the Open-ended Working Group on ICT security, which operates on a consensus basis among all UN member states. The country also welcomes the establishment of the Global Mechanism aimed at promoting responsible state behavior in ICT usage.
Huseynov expressed confidence in the work of Dedicated Thematic Groups to facilitate focused discussions on responsible ICT use. He reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to maintaining a secure and trusted cyberspace as essential for achieving sustainable development goals and improving global living standards.
