New York:Azerbaijan has expressed its appreciation for global efforts directed at creating a secure and stable environment for information and communications technology (ICT). Magsad Huseynov, First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, highlighted the transformative impact of ICTs on societies during a United Nations General Assembly session focused on disarmament and international security.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Huseynov emphasized the crucial role that ICTs play in sustainable development, economic growth, and innovation. He noted that as reliance on digital technologies increases, so does the importance of ensuring their security and resilience. The growing frequency and sophistication of malicious ICT activities pose threats to critical infrastructure and services, necessitating strengthened international cooperation and practical measures to mitigate risks.
Azerbaijan has been an active supporter of the Open-ended Working Group on ICT security, which includes participation from all Member States. The country welcomes the new Global Mechanism focused on international security and responsible State behavior in ICT use. Huseynov expressed confidence that ongoing discussions within Dedicated Thematic Groups will further responsible State behavior and reinforce a secure cyberspace essential for achieving sustainable development goals.
