Baku: Azerbaijan is set to undergo significant changes in its customs representation system, with the government proposing to abolish the existing licensing requirement. The overhaul will see the re-institutionalization of customs representation, where the current concept of ‘customs broker’ will be replaced with ‘indirect customs representation.’ This initiative is reflected in the draft amendments to the Customs Code, which were submitted for discussion at the Milli Majlis on May 1.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft outlines that indirect customs representation will be conducted by legal entities through their inclusion in a newly created register. Meanwhile, direct customs representation will be facilitated by individuals based on a power of attorney. In addition to these changes, the licensing requirement for carrier activity is set to be abolished. Furthermore, a comprehensive list of individuals and entities participating in this field will be published on the official government website.
