Azerbaijan President Highlights Anti-Corruption Measures at OIC Meeting

Baku:Azerbaijan is actively implementing measures to combat corruption, emphasized President Ilham Aliyev. The President highlighted efforts such as modernizing legislation, enhancing transparency and accountability in public administration, ensuring the digitalization and accessibility of public services, and strengthening public oversight as significant steps towards preventing corruption. These remarks were made during his address to the Third Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities of the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, held in Baku.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev also addressed the issue of illegal exploitation of Azerbaijan’s natural resources, including mineral deposits, during the nearly 30-year occupation of the country’s territories. He noted that this illegal exploitation, often involving foreign entities, resulted in severe environmental damage and that substantial proceeds from these activities were laundered through international financial channels.

President Aliyev further explained the dual impact of digital development, particularly the rapid spread of artificial intelligence. While it expands opportunities to combat corruption, it also creates conditions for new forms of corruption and misuse of digital financial instruments. He stressed the importance of law enforcement agencies effectively using modern technological solutions to prevent and investigate such crimes efficiently.

Moreover, President Aliyev expressed confidence that the discussions and proposals made at the meeting in Baku would strengthen cooperation among OIC member states in combating corruption, build mutual trust, and contribute to the sustainable development of the countries involved.
