Azerbaijan Moves to Expand Scope of Prohibited Online Content

Baku: The scope of prohibited information that should not be placed on the Internet information resource is being expanded, APA reports. This new development was discussed during a session of the Milli Majlis, where changes to the existing law were proposed.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the proposal introduces a new Article 13-2.3.6-1 to the Law “On Information, Informatization and Information Protection.” The draft specifies that owners of Internet information resources, domain names, or users of information and telecommunications networks must prevent the placement of content that, when publicly displayed, offends public morality or shows disrespect for society. This includes uttering immoral expressions, making inappropriate gestures, or displaying body parts in ways that contradict moral norms and national values.

The draft law was subsequently put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
