Azerbaijan-Laos Cultural Ties Fostered by Diaspora Efforts

Accra:Azerbaijani teacher Ruhid Rajabsoy, residing in Laos, highlights the historical and cultural connections between Azerbaijan and Laos, noting the significant bonds formed during the Soviet era when many Lao students studied in Azerbaijan. These ties continue to influence bilateral relations, as efforts are made to maintain and strengthen them.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Rajabsoy emphasizes the role of Azerbaijani expatriates in promoting their culture and increasing awareness about Azerbaijan among the Lao population. Despite a small Azerbaijani community in Laos, efforts are made to introduce Azerbaijani traditions and cuisine to the local people, fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange.

Rajabsoy also points out the potential for economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly in agriculture, energy, and tourism. He identifies the lack of direct flights as a hindrance to expanding business ties, suggesting that improved transport links could significantly enhance these relations. Additionally, both countries’ focus on regional transport connectivity offers new opportunities for economic collaboration, with Azerbaijan’s Middle Corridor initiative and Laos’s infrastructural development.

Furthermore, Laos’s extensive experience with unexploded ordnance from past conflicts presents a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange with Azerbaijan, which faces similar challenges with landmines in its liberated territories. Rajabsoy advocates for collaborative efforts in demining activities to enhance safety and development prospects in affected areas.
