Azerbaijan Implements Ban on AI-Generated Fake and Sexual Content in Media

Baku: The distribution of fake and sexual content created using artificial intelligence will be banned in the media, APA reports. This development stems from the introduction of a new Article 14.1.13-1 in the Law ‘On Media,’ which President Ilham Aliyev has enacted through a decree.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the new regulations prohibit the dissemination of photo, video, or audio materials that do not reflect reality and are created using artificial intelligence technologies or special software, including pornographic or sexual content, without the consent of the person whose image or voice is used. If such content is broadcast, the Audiovisual Council has the authority to temporarily suspend the broadcast for up to 24 hours. Additionally, the import and distribution of foreign print media containing such content in Azerbaijan may be prohibited by court order.

Courts also have the power to order the removal of already distributed foreign print media products from sale if they violate these regulations. Furthermore, proposed amendments to the Law ‘On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information’ require internet information resource owners, domain name holders, and users of information and telecommunications networks to prevent the placement of AI-generated content that does not reflect reality, particularly if it includes pornographic or sexual material, without the individual’s consent.
