Azerbaijan Extradites Uzbek Citizen Wanted for Tax Evasion


Baku: Azerbaijan has extradited Abror Anvar Akbarov, an Uzbek citizen wanted for significant tax evasion, to Uzbekistan as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan announced.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the extradition was executed following a request from the Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan. Akbarov, born in 1997, had been internationally sought for evading a large amount of taxes in his home country. He was located and apprehended in Azerbaijan in January, where a detention order was subsequently issued against him.



The extradition was carried out in accordance with the Convention on Legal Aid and Legal Relations in Civil, Family, and Criminal Matters, dated October 7, 2002. Akbarov was transferred to the appropriate authorities in Uzbekistan under the escort of a special convoy from the Ministry of Justice Penitentiary Service.
