Azerbaijan Enacts Fines for Age-Restricted Social Media Platform Violations

Baku: Fines are being established for violations of requirements related to the operation of age-restricted social media platforms, APA reports. This is reflected in the new Article 388-4 added to the Code of Administrative Offenses, which was submitted for discussion at today’s session of the Milli Majlis.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft specifies that failure to submit the information required by the Law ‘On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information’ to the designated body, violation of the deadline for submitting such information, or submission of incomplete or distorted information will incur fines. Officials will face fines ranging from 6,000 to 7,000 manats, while legal entities will be fined between 15,000 and 20,000 manats.

Additionally, the draft outlines that age-restricted social media providers must respond within five working days to inquiries from the designated authority. Failure to do so, or submitting incomplete or distorted information, will result in fines of 7,000 to 8,000 manats for officials and 25,000 to 30,000 manats for legal entities.

Violations concerning the safe use of age-restricted social media platforms will attract fines between 8,000 and 9,000 manats for officials and 35,000 to 40,000 manats for legal entities.

If offenses are repeated within a year from the date the initial administrative penalty is enforced, fines will increase to 9,000 to 10,000 manats for officials and 45,000 to 50,000 manats for legal entities. The law will become effective twelve months after its publication, following its approval on the first reading.
