Azerbaijan Emphasizes Anti-Corruption Efforts at OIC Meeting

Baku:Azerbaijan has highlighted its commitment to combating corruption at the Third Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities of the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Baku. The nation stresses the importance of expanding cooperation, reinforcing solidarity, and promoting mutual support within the OIC framework.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijan views corruption as a transnational crime that undermines public trust in state institutions and erodes social justice, fair competition, and economic development. The Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention, a strategic document for OIC member states, provides a common legal framework for anti-corruption law enforcement cooperation. Azerbaijan’s accession to this convention is seen as crucial for enhancing international cooperation.

The country continues to implement comprehensive anti-corruption measures, including modernizing legislation, increasing transparency and accountability in public administration, digitalizing public services, and enhancing public oversight. These efforts aim to prevent corruption effectively.

Azerbaijan also highlighted the environmental damage caused during the nearly 30-year occupation of its territories, where illegal exploitation of natural resources involved foreign entities. These activities resulted in severe environmental harm and significant financial crimes through international channels.

The rapid advancement of digital technology, including artificial intelligence, presents new opportunities and challenges in combating corruption. Azerbaijan emphasizes the importance of law enforcement authorities effectively using modern technological solutions to prevent and investigate these crimes.

The discussions in Baku are expected to contribute to strengthening cooperation among OIC member states in fighting corruption, fostering mutual trust, and promoting sustainable development.
