Baku: Chairman of the State Customs Committee Shahin Baghirov has addressed concerns related to the Temu platform, APA reports. During a meeting of the Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship Committee of the Milli Majlis, Baghirov discussed the challenges faced by Azerbaijan’s customs due to the sudden influx of parcels from Temu.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Baghirov highlighted the sharp increase in parcels entering the country via Temu, with a significant 400 tons of cargo arriving at the airport without prior electronic data or notifications. This unexpected volume required the customs department to utilize their resources to process the shipments, identify ownership, and determine the purpose of the imports. Baghirov expressed concerns about the nature of the goods, emphasizing the need to ensure that only safe, non-prohibited items are imported, particularly given the potential for medicines requiring authorization and other restricted substances.
Baghirov further explained that the customs issue with Temu persisted for two weeks before being resolved using internal resources. He stressed the importance of Temu providing advance data to integrate into the Risk Management System, thereby facilitating smoother processing and maintaining safety standards.
