Azerbaijan and IMF Enhance Cooperation on Public Enterprise Monitoring


Baku: Anar Karimov, Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Minister of Finance, met with a delegation led by Nino Tchelishvili, Senior Economist of the Fiscal Affairs Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), who is on a visit to the country. The discussions centered around the frameworks for monitoring and accountability of public enterprises, ongoing reforms, and the enhancement of institutional mechanisms to manage fiscal risks.



According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the parties exchanged views on the operations of the Monitoring Agency of State Enterprises under the Ministry of Finance. The discussions included efforts on monitoring public enterprises, assessing fiscal impacts, and incorporating advanced international practices into the monitoring process.



Anar Karimov highlighted that recent reforms in public enterprise monitoring have significantly bolstered transparency and accountability, while emphasizing the need for continued improvement of the institutional framework and effective fiscal risk management as ongoing priorities.



Nino Tchelishvili underscored the significance of applying stress tests to evaluate the performance of state-owned enterprises, enhancing institutional capacity, and fostering technical cooperation. She also shared expectations and prospects for future collaboration within the mission.



During their visit, the IMF delegation is scheduled to engage in further meetings at the Ministry of Finance and other public institutions, focusing on the activities of public enterprises, management practices, and ongoing reforms.
