Armenia’s Deployment of Military Supplies to Azerbaijan’s Formerly Occupied Territories Confirmed in Court Testimony

Baku: The ongoing court proceedings at the Baku Military Court have brought to light crucial testimonies regarding Armenia’s military activities in Azerbaijan’s formerly occupied territories. The open session, under the chairmanship of Judge Zeynal Agayev, is addressing criminal cases against multiple Armenian citizens, including prominent figures such as Arayik Harutyunyan and Bako Sahakyan. These individuals face charges related to crimes against peace, war crimes, and terrorism.

According to Trend News Agency, defendant Bako Sahakyan’s testimony during the preliminary investigation revealed significant details about Armenia’s military involvement. Sahakyan, who served as a logistics chief for the illegal regime’s defense army, admitted to being directly involved in supplying the Armenian armed forces since the ceasefire in May 1994. He stated that from 2015 to 2020, the Armenian Defense Ministry deployed the ‘S-300’ missile system to Shusha, and that military supplies and personnel were dispatched under directives from Armenia’s military-political leadership.

During the hearing, the court also addressed procedural matters, including the termination of participation for Garik Martirosyan’s lawyer due to medical reasons and the appointment of a new defender. Similarly, the lawyer for one of the victims, Nazrin Mammadli, was excused from participation due to family issues, with arrangements made for a new representative.

Further testimony from defendant David Babayan, presented during the session, highlighted his roles within the so-called regime and detailed the supply routes and logistics of military equipment from Armenia. Babayan’s statements included admissions of transporting resources like energy and alcoholic beverages from the occupied territories to Armenia and beyond. He also discussed efforts to secure financial support from Armenians abroad for those in the occupied regions.

Babayan’s testimony underscored the integrated operations between the so-called regime’s army and Armenian armed forces, as well as the extensive mining activities carried out since 1994. His statements also referenced his public declaration on January 4, 2021, asserting the impossibility of coexistence with Azerbaijanis within one state.

The Baku Military Court’s proceedings, which focus on Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan, are set to continue on September 1, with further testimonies and evidence expected to be presented.
