Gubadli:Today marks the anniversary of the liberation of the city of Gubadli from Armenian occupation. The city was freed as a result of combat operations conducted by the Azerbaijani Army during a counter-offensive that began on September 27, 2020, culminating in the liberation of Gubadli on October 25, 2020.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, the successful operations in the eastern Jabrayil and southern Zangilan districts were pivotal in enabling the Azerbaijani Armed Forces to advance to the administrative borders of the Gubadli district. During the Second Karabakh War, Azerbaijani forces dealt a significant blow to enemy forces, resulting in the capture and destruction of enemy weapons and equipment.
On October 26, the head of state announced the liberation of the city of Gubadli, along with several villages in the Gubadli, Zangilan, and Jabrayil districts. These operations resulted in fierce battles, where Azerbaijani forces overcame resistance and inflicted heavy losses on Armenian troops.
To honor the efforts of the servicemen involved, the Republic of Azerbaijan established the ‘For the Liberation of Gubadli’ Medal. President Ilham Aliyev awarded this medal to servicemen who demonstrated personal courage during the operations. Additionally, October 25 has been designated as Gubadli City Day.
Gubadli had been under Armenian occupation since August 31, 1993. During the occupation, significant destruction occurred, including acts of vandalism against religious and cultural sites, as well as ecological damage to the region’s natural resources.
