Ambassador Highlights EU’s Role as Azerbaijan’s Largest Trading Partner


Ganja: The opening ceremony of the European Union’s “EuroVillage 2026” event has been held in Ganja, APA’s local bureau reports. The ceremony took place at the “EuroVillage” in Heydar Aliyev Square, marking a significant milestone in the EU-Azerbaijan relationship.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the “EuroVillage 2026” event was organized under the theme of 30 years of partnership with Azerbaijan. It was coordinated by the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan with the cooperation of embassies from EU member states and supported by the Ganja City Executive Authority. Representatives from countries including Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and Sweden participated in the event. Attendees had the chance to explore the EU through various programs and tents representing the member states.



EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Marijana Kujund‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬¦¾ic, speaking at the event, emphasized the importance of EuroVillage as an opportunity for Azerbaijanis to engage with Europe. She remarked on the EU’s pride in its 30-year partnership with Azerbaijan, noting the successful implementation of numerous projects across agriculture, business development, healthcare, education, and the environment since 1996. Kujund‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬¦¾ic highlighted the EU’s position as Azerbaijan’s largest trading partner and investor, affirming the commitment to strengthening ties.



The event also featured a tree-planting campaign in Heydar Aliyev Park, involving the participation of the Head of the Ganja City Executive Authority and various ambassadors. This marks the second time Ganja has hosted the EuroVillage event, the first being in 2016 when the city was declared the European Youth Capital.
