Baku: In the first half of the year, Azerbaijan experienced a notable shift in its air transportation dynamics as air passenger traffic saw a significant increase, while cargo transport faced a decline.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, 1,860.9 thousand passengers were transported, marking a 2.6% rise compared to the previous year. The report highlights that a vast majority, 99.9%, of these passengers were transported by state-owned vehicles, with only 0.1% using privately-owned transport.
In contrast, cargo transportation witnessed a downturn in the same period. The total cargo transported by air decreased by 8.4%, amounting to 192 thousand tons. This decline in cargo transport indicates a shift in the air transportation sector’s focus towards passenger services during the first half of the year.
