Zangezur Corridor to Serve as Major Energy and Logistics Route to Trkiye

Kilis: All energy resources and logistics routes will soon be delivered to Trkiye via the Zangezur corridor, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Trkiye, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced to journalists during the opening ceremony of the Trkiye-Syria gas pipeline.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, electricity from Azerbaijan is currently being transmitted to Trkiye through Georgia. Central Asian energy resources are also expected to reach Europe through Azerbaijan and Trkiye. Bayraktar highlighted that various energy projects involving natural resources such as oil, gas, and electricity are being conducted in partnership with Azerbaijan.

One of the significant projects mentioned by the minister is the Nakhchivan-Trkiye electricity interconnector, alongside other implemented projects like the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipelines. These initiatives underscore the ongoing collaboration between Trkiye and Azerbaijan in energy infrastructure development.

The opening ceremony of the Trkiye-Syria natural gas pipeline took place in Yavuzlu village, Kilis province. The pipeline’s inauguration marks the beginning of Azerbaijani gas exports to Syria through Trkiye. Under a recent agreement between SOCAR and Syria, 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year will be transported initially. The gas will travel through Kilis to Syrian power plants in Aleppo and Homs, contributing to electricity generation with a targeted production capacity of 1,200-1,300 megawatts.
