When Steel Becomes Art: 2nd International Baku Steel Art Symposium Begins in Baku

Baku: The 2nd International Symposium Baku Steel Art has commenced in Baku as a significant feature of the expansive cultural festival Fly to Baku. Art Weekend. Sense the Future NOW.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the event is co-organised by Baku Steel Company CJSC and QGallery, bringing together 14 artists from eight nations, including Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Trkiye, Romania, Germany, Serbia, Iran, and Uzbekistan. This collaboration exemplifies the fusion of metallurgy and art to promote environmental awareness and sustainable development. The symposium underscores the increasing significance of ecological consciousness and accountability, offering a fresh perspective on the relationship between artistic creativity and industrial innovation in addressing global environmental challenges.

In the coming days, the artists will transform steel into captivating artworks, creating large-scale installations, intricate compositions, and conceptual pieces that confront pressing issues such as sustainability, material reuse, and the intersection of technology and creativity. As grinders hum and welders spark, metal will be reimagined as a poetic medium, capable of prompting reflection, evoking emotion, and symbolizing resilience. Once completed, these sculptures will be displayed in open-air exhibition spaces along Baku Boulevard, allowing the public to experience a blend of craftsmanship, technology, and art in the city’s heart.

As an integral part of the broader Fly to Baku. Art Weekend festival, the symposium contributes to a multidisciplinary cultural programme running from October 31 to November 2. This programme includes over forty exhibitions, performances, and educational events across Baku’s most iconic cultural venues.

Notably, the region’s first international metal symposium, ‘Baku Steel Art 2024,’ took place last year from September 17 to 30, featuring twelve artists from seven countries, including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Trkiye, Romania, Israel, India, and Bulgaria.

Baku Steel Company, the leading metallurgical company in the Caucasus region, is known for its technological innovation and environmental responsibility, while QGallery, established in 1999 in Baku, stands as one of Azerbaijan’s most significant contemporary art platforms, connecting local and international art scenes.

Fly to Baku. Art Weekend. Sense the Future NOW is an international art and culture festival that transforms Baku into a canvas of creativity, heritage, and ecological reflection, inspired by the Caspian Sea and interweaving tradition with modernity.
