Western Azerbaijan Community Seeks Repatriation of Over 300,000 Refugees

Baku: The Western Azerbaijan Community (WAC) is striving to facilitate the return of more than 300,000 refugees who were displaced from Armenia over the past two centuries. This effort was highlighted by Aziz Alakbarov, Chairman of the Board of the Community, during his address at the 3rd International Conference on ‘Cultural heritage and the right to return: The restoration of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis displaced from Armenia as a path to justice, reconciliation, and peace.’

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Alakbarov stated that the organization unites thousands of individuals who were expelled from Armenia along with their descendants. The WAC’s primary objective is to ensure the repatriation of these displaced people to their ancestral lands, which they were forced to leave due to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.

Alakbarov emphasized the organization’s commitment to international law in its efforts. He expressed concern over Armenia’s reluctance to accept international responsibility for
the displacement, labeling these actions as crimes against humanity. To address these issues, the WAC has made several appeals to UNESCO.
