Yerevan: The Western Azerbaijan Community has called on the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O’Flaherty, to ensure non-discriminatory practices during his visit to Armenia. The group emphasized the importance of addressing the rights of Armenians who left Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region voluntarily, as detailed in a statement released by the community.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the statement highlighted previous appeals made by the Western Azerbaijan Community to various Council of Europe institutions. Despite these efforts, there has been no official stance from these bodies regarding the return of Azerbaijani people to their ancestral lands in Armenia. The community urged the Commissioner for Human Rights to avoid past mistakes made by his predecessors and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. They requested the abandonment of policies that create divisions in human rights matters and advocated for a public endorsement of their right to return to Armenia.
