Waste from Agarat Plant in Armenia Dumped into Araz River, Claims Head of Public Union

Baku: “The waste exported by the Agarat copper-molybdenum plant operating in Armenia is directly discharged into the Araz River,” said Mugabil Bayramov, the head of the “Azerbaijan Cartographers” Public Union and a member of the Environmental Protection First (EPF) Coalition, during today’s briefing.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, M. Bayramov elaborated on the adverse effects this waste disposal has on the Araz River basin. He noted that approximately 30 non-governmental organizations from 13 countries have joined the Environmental Protection First coalition to address these environmental concerns. These organizations have sent official appeals to the government of Armenia and relevant international conventions seeking action. However, none of the letters sent have received a response so far.
