Baku: “We need the employment and voices of our youth in addressing climate-related issues,” Gabriela Ramos, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for the Social and Human Sciences, told journalists, APA reports. She emphasized the importance of holding people accountable: “We need to engage people in responsibility because it is the youth who will inherit the world we leave behind. Therefore, we must fulfill our climate-related commitments together.”
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ramos also expressed her eagerness to see positive outcomes from COP29, saying she is looking forward to achieving good results at the event: “I understand that the discussions are focused on climate financing. I believe this is a very important element. After last year’s agreement on the loss and damage fund, it was certainly appropriate for Azerbaijan, and particularly Baku, to focus on the financing issue. Therefore, organizing this part well and reaching a good agreement will be excellent for the success of this COP. I ho
pe that participating countries and all stakeholders will do their utmost to reach the level of ambition we need. I know that we must address the financing issue. This is a critical point. Now that we have access to the loss and damage fund at the last COP, everyone must participate in order to secure the required funding. Because the pass must be paid for. I wish success to the government of Azerbaijan in this very important work.”
