Gazakh: Two years have passed since the return of Gazakh district’s Baganis Ayrim, Ashagi Askipara, Kheyrymli, and Gizilhajili villages to Azerbaijan, APA reports. This milestone follows a series of diplomatic and technical efforts to ensure the liberation of these territories from occupation.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the process commenced under the directives of President Ilham Aliyev, who emphasized the importance of reclaiming the villages within the Gazakh district. A significant step was the signing of the Protocol during the 8th meeting of the State Commission on the Delimitation of the State Border between Azerbaijan and Armenia on April 19, 2024.
To implement the Protocol, geodetic measurements were conducted to clarify the border coordinates, resulting in a Technical Protocol detailing the delineation of the border. The 9th meeting of the Commissions, held on May 15, 2024, saw both sides agreeing on the Technical Protocol, marking a pivotal moment in the delimitation process.
The delimitation efforts led to the determination of a 12.7 km long border line, facilitating the return of 6.5 square kilometres encompassing the four villages to Azerbaijan. Finally, on May 24, 2024, the territories were officially taken under control by the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, solidifying the return of Baganis Ayrim, Ashagi Askipara, Kheyrymli, and Gizilhajili to Azerbaijani governance.
