TURKPA Endorses Azerbaijan’s Halt in Ties with European Parliament

Baku: Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) Ramil Hasan has issued a statement on the decision of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis to suspend cooperation with the European Parliament, APA reports. The decision includes suspending collaboration in all areas and terminating participation in the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, as well as initiating withdrawal procedures from the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the decision was made in response to the European Parliament’s persistent and unfounded approach toward Azerbaijan over recent years. The European Parliament has adopted more than 10 politically motivated documents against Azerbaijan, including a resolution dated April 30, 2026, which the Azerbaijani side views as hostile.

The statement emphasizes that this stance disregards key principles such as sovereignty and territorial integrity, and contradicts the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Parliamentary assemblies are meant to foster constructive dialogue, yet the European Parliament’s actions are seen as targeting Azerbaijan rather than promoting cooperation.

The statement also calls on the European Parliament to refrain from such practices, asserting that the current behavior does not aid interparliamentary relations. TURKPA stresses the importance of sincere engagement and goodwill cooperation with parliaments of non-member states.
